The Akhtala church has faced many difficulties during its long history – one was that it did not have a priest for many centuries. Since three years this has changed but until now it has not been possible to finalize the church with a dome. Another question is who can take over the responsibility for the monument in future. Many young people have left the Akhtala, mainly because of unemployment. The only local employer is a mining plant that damages the environment and human health.
