14.08.2013 15:03

Second Tsopi Church stands to the west from the fortress, in ruined settlement (coordinates: 41.145420 44.413334). It represents a structure, built of uniform size, roughly cut quadras. Sharply horse-shoe- shaped triumphal arch is made of cut tuff rock. Window with parallel sides is cut in the horse-shoe- like apse. Second such window is in the south wall. The church has three doors, one – in the south wall, two others – in the north wall. Later small chapel was built adjacent to the church from the north. One could enter there only through north-east door.

The church dates back to VI-VII c.c. “Ujarmian” masonry, thick walls, horse-shoe- shaped arch and apse indicate to the old age of this church and put it in one line with the monuments like Mankhuti and Tsverodabali.
