SOS Cul ture project implemented by the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) had a wonderful closing event of the summer camp which took place from August 13-19, 2012 in Odzun. This event was an excellent opportunity to present the guests with what had been done during the whole week. All five youth clubs that were participating during the camp did their best to present an original and interesting program.

Participant youth clubs were represented by five different booths, where guests had the opportunity to learn about the communities and their cultural monuments. The youth club from Varagavan presented the history of Nor Varagavanq monastery. Talented members of the club had a cultural program with old songs and dances. After visiting Varagavan booth, the guests were welcomed by the members of Yerevan Zoo Eco club members who sang a beautiful song about Yerevan.

The next booth was from Akhtala youth club. Club members told the guests the story of Akhtala monastery complex and the legends that the monastery has. Youth club members from Alaverdi presented the history of Sanahin and talked about the problems that the church has nowadays. The participants could not ignore the environmental issues that city faces and problems that the Debet river has. The guests “moved” from Alaverdi to Berdavan where everyone was welcomed with traditional bread and salt and with an amazing performance. The story of the performance was about Berdavan, about the life of a villager who lives there. Through the performance the guests had an opportunity to learn about the everyday life of the family, where the grandfather with his sons and grandchildren was building a house for future generations, working in the fields, preserving and passing family values and local knowledge. During the performance talented young participants performed folk songs and dances.

After visiting all booths, the guests moved to the hall, where different groups presented materials about cultural monuments and about the summer camp life. Akhtala youth club had a creative solution to the present summer camp. They made a short and funny performance.

SOS Culture project`s summer camp closing event ended with "Echmiadzin" dance, which was prepared during the course of the folk dance and Armenian studies. "I am very much impressed by the closing event. Everything was very well organized. Participants are very talented and it is unbelievable they could prepare this event in such short period of time” said Lusine, who came from Alaverdi to participate in the event.
