My impressions: Shaumiani

Our last stop was Shaumiani Youth Club in the Marneuli region. Unfortunately here we could not meet the Youth club coordinator Misha Kharazishvilli, however we had a chance to participate in the leadership training of the group. We met the trainer Ilona Gogia and Fatima Todua form the Alternative Young Generation NGO. They conducted the training in Georgian with Russian translation as this is a multiethnic group.

The Shaumiani Youth Club has 25 participants of different backgrounds. Because of language barrier club members have some difficulties to communicate with each other and with trainers. Seven  of them come to the trainings from Marneuli. Magaram Bairamov (17 years old) mentioned: “I have been also to other trainings in Marneuli, however the SOS Culture trainings give us more knowledge and new friends and communication”.

The trainers also mention that the language barrier is a problem here and they have to use more non-verbal teaching methods. The children also do a lot of outdoor activities here and participate in different competitions such as football and volleyball. Beside the trainings on leadership, communication effectiveness, tolerance and team building they had 5 excursions. During the excursions they have learnt many new things about their surrounding cultural sites.
