From November 5-7, FPWC’s SOS Culture project was represented at the Second Regional Conference “Facets of Culture in the Eastern Partnership” in Ukraine. The conference summarized the first phase of the Eastern Partnership Culture Programme. Around 120 delegates, including various representatives, culture actors, programme participants and beneficiaries from the EaP countries, such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine gathered to share results and visions. As an output of the self-evaluation workshops, the participants released a joint position statement on their projects’ achievements and challenges.

The Conference sessions started with a showcase of the results of the Eastern Partnership Culture Programme at the Achievements Fair. The work evaluation was guided by three thematic categories: Professionalisation and Professional Networks, Policy and Culture and Future Generator. Based on a public vote by the conference delegates, FPWC’s SOS Culture project was awarded for the Best Achievement of the Eastern Partnership Culture Programme in the field of promotion of culture as a future generator.

With an overall duration of 24 months, the SOS Culture project aimed to register and preserve endangered cultural assets in the remote border regions of Armenia and Georgia with the involvement of local youth. The project included not only proactive participation by the regional youth, but also publishing and distribution of manuals and training materials for cultural heritage education. In addition, 4 films were produced by children within the framework of the project. The films, which were scripted and directed by SOS Culture Youth Club Members from Akhtala, Alaverdi, Varagavan and Berdavan, have since won numerous awards in international film festivals.
