On October 18, the Youth Film Awards within the 4th SunChild Environmental Film Festival took place at the “Ani Plaza” hotel, where four films were presented by the children of the SOS Culture project’s youth clubs. All the films were truly very good, and the kids approached the topics with care, wishing to show the cultural and environmental issues of their communities through the films.

The film “Old Town,” made by members of SOS Culture project’s Akhtala youth club, was awarded a “special mention” by the jury. The film “Awaiting the Saving Cross” prepared by Varagavan youth club won the award as the best film about cultural value, and the film “Awake Guardian” created by Berdavan youth club was awarded the prize as the most original idea.

The first honorary place prize was awarded to the Alaverdi SOS Culture youth club’s “Vash-vish” film, which had affected all the members of the jury and guests. Jury President Mrs. Hermine Stepanyan noted in her speech that all the members of the jury were in unanimous agreement that this film would be the best youth film of the year.

The "Vash-vish" film tells the reality of the Alaverdi city’s existing environmental problems related to the Debit river’s pollution and the people’s indifference towards the situation, and the adverse conditions for the people caused by the Alaverdi Copper Factory.

The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets, with the help of VivaCell MTS, prepared a prize for the winning film, which was a digital video camera. This award will encourage the members of Alaverdi youth club to continue with their films as a medium through which to identify the problems within their community and to draw people's attention to these problems.
