SOS Culture in the Center for Environmental Studies in Margahovit

On May 10, 16 and 26 the SOS Culture youth clubs members from Varagava, Berdavan, Alaverdi and Akhtala will visit the Michael and Virginia Ohanian Center for Environmental Studies in Margahovit, where Armenia Tree Project (ATP) provides classroom and hands-on environmental training and workshops for schoolchildren.

In Margahovit Village, which is located in the Lori region of Armenia the Youth Club members will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of trees, the protection of wildlife habitat, proper waste management, engagement of local youth and community residents in the creation of a new green spaces, environmental education, trash collection, and recycling programs.

The main aim of these trainings is to present the importance of nature and the role human beings play in nature’s cycles. The goal is to unite everyone around the idea of cleaning up trash, including historical and cultural sites.

Based on this cooperation with ATP the SOS Culture Youth Clubs will also organize tree plantings in their own communities in autumn 2013.
