Bell-tower of Episcopal Cathedral of Dmanisi’s Sioni
In the central part of the ruined city, near citadel, there is Episcopal church (VIII-IX c.c.); from the south east high rectangular building, representing a bell-tower, adjoins it (coordinates: 41.20932 44.203377). The bell-tower is built of churches rocks and bears traces if multiple reconstructions. Initially it had two high, arched entrances from the west and east. Later these entrances were bricked and only small door was left. Initially the bell-tower was two-storied, arched stone stairs going up to the second floor adjoins south-east corner of Sioni. Assembly, the bell-tower had an arbour, which is not preserved. In late Middle Ages this building was reconstructed as a house.
The oldest layer of the bell-tower of Dmanisi’s Sioni dates back to the XIV c.
