The Georgian View on SOS Culture
The Armenian team of SOS culture project is currently hosting a Georgian intern for two months. Ketevan Babunashvili studies in Tbilisi State University after Iv. Javakhishvili. Her program, called “Transformation in South Caucasus”, is an interdisciplinary English master’s program about the post-soviet politics, culture and history of the three South Caucasian countries. As a result, she decided to do her internship at the SOS Culture project in Yerevan. She mainly works on the website to localize it in Georgian, i.e. to translate different articles and information for the website into the Georgian language. Apart from translating work, she really enjoys the everyday life of the project and tries to be involved in different kinds of activities.
At the beginning Ketevan met the FPWC Program Director Barbara Siebert from FPWC and the Georgian representative from the partner organization- dvv international. She was excited about the project: its goals and objectives. As she mentioned: “This project has a vital role in the rescuing of cultural assets and preserving historical monuments especially in the countries with old rich cultural heritage like Armenia and Georgia. I like the methods of project implementation, which include the variety of trainings and educational activities for young people from Armenia and Georgia in order to raise their awareness and teach them how to take care of these treasures. After a warm welcome by the SOS Culture project team in Yerevan and a few days of my internship there, I have seen how enthusiastic and motivated the people work for the project. This gave me an impetus to stay as a volunteer later in Georgia as well”.
Ketevan had a possibility to travel to Armenian border regions, namely to Alaverdi and Akhtala, where she met the youth club coordinators and saw the community educational center in Akhtala. She also had an opportunity to visit the monastery of Akhtala, a 10th-century fortified Armenian Apostolic Church located in the town of Akhtala in the Marz of Lori. Ketevan was impressed and she highly emphasized her wish to see other cultural assets of Armenia and to be involved actively in workshops and trainings organized by the SOS Culture Armenian team.
